We're a Certified B Corp. Here's What That Means

In 2024, something happened at New Leaf that we're still a bit smug about: we became a certified B Corporation.

If that phrase makes you think of a green logo on a coffee bag and not much else, you're not alone. B Corp certification gets thrown around a lot, and not every brand wearing the badge has earned it the hard way. So here's the honest version: what it actually took, what the categories really mean, and what we've done with it so far.

It's not a badge you can just buy

B Corp certification is awarded by B Lab UK after an independent assessment of how a business actually operates, not how it markets itself. The average score across all businesses that go through the assessment is 50.9.

We scored 84.8.

This means an independent body looked properly under the hood at how we run things and decided we were doing enough, across five areas, to earn the certification. Here's what those five areas actually cover.

We're proud of the 84.8. We're prouder of the fact that it's a number we now have to keep earning.

Governance and accountability. This is about whether a company is run in a way that's transparent and answerable, not just profitable. Assessors look at things like how decisions get made, whether there's real oversight, and whether the business is legally structured to consider more than shareholder returns. It's the boring-sounding one that actually underpins all the others, because good intentions don't mean much without the structure to back them up.

Environmental performance. This covers the physical footprint of the business: energy use, waste, packaging, supply chain impact, and what's being done to reduce it. It's not about writing a nice sustainability paragraph on a website. It's about what's measurably going in and coming out.

Transparency and ethics. This looks at honesty in how a company communicates, from marketing claims to supplier relationships. Are you telling customers the truth about what's in the bottle and where it came from? Are your business practices fair to the people you deal with, not just the people you sell to?

Community impact. This is about the wider ripple effect of the business, things like local engagement, charitable contributions, diversity and how the company shows up for the community around it, not just its customer base.

Worker standards. This covers how the people inside the business are actually treated: pay, benefits, working conditions and career development. It's an easy category to fail if a company's public image doesn't match its internal reality.

This isn't a one-off badge, either. Certification is reviewed on an ongoing basis and demands continued proof, not a one-time tick-box exercise. For us, that means we're measured not just by the vitamins and supplements we make, but by how we operate as a business, year after year.

So what have we actually done with it?

Talk is cheap, so here's where the numbers live. We track our environmental impact through Greenspark.

The New Leaf Mission

Our mission has always been to make high-quality vitamins and supplements available for everyone, at a reasonable price. Becoming a certified B Corp doesn't change that mission, but it does mean someone independent checked our workings and confirmed we're backing it up with how we actually run the business, not just what we say about it.

We're proud of the 84.8. We're prouder of the fact that it's a number we now have to keep earning.
